Midway through 2021, I joined the AEC on a short-term contract as part of the 2022 election preparation workforce in the Media and Digital Engagement Team (M&DE). Over the last four years, my primary focus has been developing AECTV. This has included scripting, visual planning, audiovisual setup, photography, videography, interviewing, editing, animation, product distribution, equipment maintenance, file administration and consolidation, resource coordination, and relationship building.
As an extension of my duties with AECTV, I was the team lead for the Roving Reporters (RR), a group of between 15 and 40 people (depending on the electoral cycle) across Australia who would go out on location and video/photograph various stages of the electoral process. Part of leading this team included coordinating content capture across central and remote Australia, providing direction, storyboarding and scripting, aligning opportunities to generate assets, consolidating and editing the footage into explainer videos and short-form content that showcased the elements of the election process in real-time for social media platforms, and more.
As the lead videographer for the AEC, I have spent a significant amount of time traveling to remote and central Australia, documenting various stages of the electoral process, building relationships, and talking to and interviewing people in communities.
Part of my obligations within the M&DE team included creating daily media monitoring summaries and media reports, answering the media phone, providing tacit and up-to-date knowledge of the electoral process and trending related themes to journalists and members of the public. I was responsible for creating and distributing the majority of the social media assets preemptively and reactively. Additionally, I created corporate and consumer document designs with a special focus on working on the ballot paper production as part of the design team.
Finally, as the team’s graphic designer, I ensured brand alignment across all visual outputs while producing a substantial portion of the creative collateral for both our team and the broader branch’s on-demand projects. In this capacity, I designed media headers, website banners, thumbnails, social media graphics, graphs, corporate documents, pull-up banners, media walls, and a variety of other educational materials.

While at the Royal Australian Navy Central Canteens Board, my key duties in this role consisted of being the sole developer of marketing materials, including the creation of marketing plans, idea generation, content development and design, coordination with external providers, and distribution of assets.
In addition, I assisted with the production and maintenance of presentations, key corporate documents, e-newsletters, and all corporate and promotional materials. I created photography collateral and built online videos, ensured that all creative activities were delivered in line with budgets, time frames, and project constraints, and attended external marketing and promotional events to represent Navy Canteens.
Finally, the project I was most proud of was leading the development and design of a new national re-brand, accompanied by the development and design of the brand name, logo, a new website, and a mobile application which went live during 2022.
